More on Pete

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

No, this isn’t about the fake Pete Rose that’s running wild on Twitter. It’s about the real Pete Rose. You know, the Hit King. This morning when I checked my email, I received another message from Chris Jaffe from The Hardball Times. Chris takes a look on a “day-versary” (as he puts it) on a historic feat in Rose’s career. It was 10,000 days ago that Rose collected his 4,000th hit. While Rose was not adorned in a Reds uniform when he accomplished this feat (still only the second player ever to do so), most people associate Rose with the [...]

Rolen to Return Soon

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Reds have one sure future member of the Baseball Hall of Fame on their roster and he is about to return to the active lineup.  Scott Rolen is feeling better each day as he recovers from shoulder surgery and rehabs for his return. I must preface this article by saying I love watching Scott play baseball.  His career is an amazing testament to consistent production.  There is one statistic that defines Scott for me.  500 career doubles.  An impressive number.  There are just 5 active players with more doubles in MLB:

A Little Linkage

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

This is something that I haven’t done in quite a while. Here are three stories involving the Reds that have come across my reader. All are intersting. One is surprising. One really isn’t. The other…it’s informative and about the Reds skipper, Dusty Baker. Well, here goes… The Mesoraco Watch Clipped from: mlb.mlb.com (share this clip)

Strikeout Stubbs: A Counterpoint

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

In 2005, a speedy 25 year old was patrolling center-field for the Detroit Tigers. He would go on to lead the American League in strike outs that season. The tools were there, as he showed the ability to hit for power (19 HR) and steal bases. Yet fans in Detroit were discouraged by his all-too-frequent strikeouts and pedestrian .260 batting average. Sound familiar Reds fans?

Bats Rack: Still Something To Play For

AUTHOR: | IN: Louisville Bats | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just like the Reds, the Bats are completely out of the playoff hunt for the 2011 season. So, some may feel there’s no point in showing up to the games. This is completely false. There are plenty of goals the Bats can shoot for and meet in the remaining 6 games of this 2011 season. A few of these are:

Dragon Tales: Playoff Bound

AUTHOR: | IN: Dayton Dragons, Prospects, Reds | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yesterday marked a historic first for the Dayton Dragons.  Never before in the Dragons 12 year history have the borne the title of 2nd Half MidWest League Eastern Division Champion.  The title is quite a mouthful but this Dragons team has earned it with remarkable play on the back of a commitment by the Reds organization to build camaraderie among this talented group of players by keeping them intact, for the most part, all season.  Considering the turbulence throughout the organization stemming from injuries to the major league team this was a tough commitment to keep but one that [...]

Now Hold on a Minute

AUTHOR: | IN: Reds | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

As I was thumbing through this morning edition of the Dayton Daily News sports section (yes, in print form), I glanced around and a couple of headlines grabbed my attention. First, a hearty BRM congratulations are order for the Dayton Dragons. After their 6-0 victory coupled with a loss by the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the Dragons secured not only a playoff spot, but the Eastern Division title for the second half of the season. The Dragons will begin the MWL playoffs at home in a best-of-three series againt eh Lansing Lugnuts beginning at Fifth Third field on September 7. Game [...]
