Was this just a one-time thing or what?

Does anyone else remember those embarrassingly plain (and ugly) alternate uniforms that the Cincinnati Reds wore earlier this spring during the team's tuneup against the Dayton Dragons at DayAir Ballpark? What ever happened to those things?

One Reds fan on social media took to X, shared a picture of the uniforms, and asked a very logical question, "So were these just for that game in Dayton or what?" The post received a lot of reactions, most of which were negative. One X user stated, "I was wondering about these too. I think the Reds caved to public sentiment. They knew no one liked these generic high school jerseys."

This was a reminder of how visceral the reaction among most the Reds' fanbase was to the soft-reveal during the team's exhibition game against the Dragons this spring. Thankfully the Reds have not worn these uniforms during a regular season game, but they're still for sale at the team's online store.

So this begs the question — did the Reds really balk after all the negativity and decide that donning these new threads wasn't worth the hassle? If so, bravo Reds fans. We've officially averted disaster.

There will always be disagreements among fans about a team's uniforms. While wildly popular among most Reds fans, some can't stand the "City Connect" uniforms. The all-black look with "Cincy" across the chest was received with unprecedented joy from the majority of Cincinnati fans, but there were (and still are) some holdouts.

If you really want to get Reds fans fired up, just mention the drop-shadow lettering on the jerseys and cap. Many, if not all, Reds fans want to see the team dump the drop-shadow in favor of something more modern. But still, the team has yet to alter the drop-shadow lettering and logo in anyway.

Now, we're barely two months into the season, and there's still plenty of time to be disappointed, Reds fans. But for now, it appears that the coast is clear. Perhaps this will be a blip on the radar screen. Much like the Reds' career of Ricky Karcher, this jersey could be one-and-done. But Reds fans probably remember Karcher much more favorably than this disastrous jersey.
