Reds proudly wear City Connect unis while NL Central rival suffers shameful uniform gaffe

The Cincinnati Reds' game against the New York Mets was the first of the team's City Connect Fridays of 2024. The Reds revealed their all-black uniforms last season with a much different feel than the team's traditional red and white combination with a wishbone 'C' on the cap.

The Reds, just as they did last season, will proudly wear their City Connect uniforms for every Friday home game this season. There are even some special City Connect bobblehead giveaways throughout the season featuring players like Jake Fraley, Elly De La Cruz, and Alexis Diaz.

But not every team will be wearing their alternate uniforms this Friday night. According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, the Brewers will not be wearing their Friday home game City Connect jerseys tonight. Why, you ask? Because the uniforms have yet to arrive from Nike and Fanatics.

This is the latest in a series of inexcusable mistakes on the part of Nike, Fanatics, and Major League Baseball as a whole. Things have gotten so bad as it relates to the uniforms this season that the Player's Association has been forced to get involved.

Unfortunately for MLB, the Brewers weren't the only team who've yet to receive their City Connect uniforms. The defending World Series champion Texas Rangers will not be decked out in their City Connect unis this Friday either. According to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers expect to have them by their next Friday home game in late-April.

At least the Reds are looking sharp on Friday night under the lights at Great American Ball Park. The Reds game against the Mets was the first of 12 City Connect Fridays at GABP this season. The Reds were 5-6 in their City Connect uniforms last season. Reds fans are hoping for a better record on Friday night's this season.
