The Cincinnati Reds took the field at DayAir Ballpark on Tuesday night to play an exhibition game against several of the team's minor league players. But why were the Reds major league stars dressed like just pulled a shirt out of the discount bin from Walmart?

The Reds debuted their new alternate uniforms on Tuesday night, and the fan response was one of disgust. Social media was ripe with unrest. Many fans took to X (formerly Twitter) calling the new uniforms boring, weak, unimaginative, awful, and some words that are considered NSFW.

The critics were out in mass. Not only did the uniforms draw the ire of the fanbase due to the incredibly dull design, but jerseys didn't even include the player's names on the back, leading many fans to call them cheap and second-rate.

The Reds' team store might want to start adding these new alternate uniforms to the clearance rack alongside the Jonathan India jerseys because it's unlikely that the Cincinnati faithful will be pulling out their Visa and MasterCard for something that looks like it was designed by a third-grader using graphic design software from 1997.

After last year's disastrous rollout of the new and improved Nike jerseys that were ridiculed beyond belief, you'd think that these companies would do a better job of developing a quality product that fans would be proud to wear. But instead, they decided to go with one of the simplest designs imaginable.

For those who haven't seen it, the new alternate uniforms are all-white with a wishbone 'C' on the left-side of the chest. The disembodied head of Mr. Redlegs is on one sleeve while the Kroger sponsorship is on the other. And that's it.

Hopefully Fanatics and Nike hear the cries from the Reds fanbase and quickly abandon the idea of adding these horrid uniforms to the shelves. Reds fans would be quite happy if these things never saw the light of day again. Oh, by the way, for those of you who hate the drop-shadow, it's still part of this new alternate uniform. Even more reason not to buy one, right?

Hey Reds, do everyone a favor — if you're looking for an alternate uniform, just wear the City Connects and call it a day.
