While baseball got most of the picks for the 2025 All-Star Game right, it did feel bad that Cincinnati Reds starter Andrew Abbott was not selected. While there was a thought process behind the decision (the National League is loaded and Abbott did miss time), not having Abbott in the game when he is so clearly one of the best pitchers in baseball right now just felt wrong. Well, that problem was fixed on Tuesday.
Predictably, not all of the pitchers named to the All-Star Game rosters are going to be able to participate. For example, the Braves' Chris Sale was never going to pitch in the game as he is currently on the 60-day IL with a broken rib. Sale is only going to be the first domino to fall, but Reds fans did not have to wait long for others as Abbott was officially named to the NL All-Star roster during Cincy's game against the Marlins. It was a great moment as Abbott was absolutely mobbed in the dugout.

Reds fans should be thrilled that Andrew Abbott got his All-Star nod
While Abbott talked about how he thought he had played well enough to get selected and that it was ultimately outside of his control, everyone could tell he was pretty disappointed to not get in. Seasons like the one he is having are rare and to not get the opportunity to participate in the Midsummer Classic clearly bummed him out.
According to reports, Abbott will be replacing Yoshinobu Yamamoto and it is likely that we will see a number of injury replacements in the coming days as players who are dealing with nagging injuries pull out from playing in the game itself. Fortunately, Abbott was on the short list for inclusion once injuries started getting announced and now he will get his chance to take on the best of the best down at Truist Park in a week or so.
