If you were planning to watch the Cincinnati Reds play the Washington Nationals this evening, you may want to flip the channel over to NBC and watch the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby instead. The Reds second game against the Nationals have been delayed for about 20 minutes.
The Reds and Nats were scheduled play at 6:40 PM ET today, but the game has been delayed and will not start until 7:00 PM ET. If you're at the ballpark, it may be time to hit the concession stand and then find some shelter for an extra few minutes. The rain will hopefully be headed out of the tri-state area sometime soon.
Reds vs. Nationals Rain Delay - Saturday, May 3: Updates, full details, weather
If the weather allows, Reds starter Nick Lodolo is scheduled to take the mound for Cincinnati and will be looking to duplicate the feat achieved by his counterpart Hunter Greene on Friday night. Greene endured a near two-hour delay, but managed to give Terry Francona six innings and struck out 12 batters en route to a 6-1 Reds win over the Nationals.
Lodolo will be trying to keep pace with Greene. Both players have a case during the early going for a spot on the NL All-Star team. Lodolo is coming off one of his best outings having gone seven strong against the Colorado Rockies last week. The lanky lefty struck out nine and allowed no runs on just two hits in the Mile High City.
The Nats will send Trevor Williams to the hill tonight. With a right-hander finally back on the bump for the opposition, Fracona will be able to deploy Gavin Lux and Jake Fraley. Both players have been absent from the lineup with the string of lefties thrown at Cincinnati in recent days. Tyler Stephenson, who made his presence felt upon his return, will be back in the lineup as well, and after playing DH on Friday, he'll be hanging the signs for Lodolo on Saturday night.
