The Cincinnati Reds have been revamping their roster this offseason. Several of moves have greatly improved the Reds roster heading into spring training, but with Cincinnati's 40-man roster at capacity, some recent acquisitions forced the front office to make some corresponding moves.

Last week, the Reds traded for San Francisco Giants reliever Taylor Rogers and were forced to designate pitcher Owen White for assignment. A couple days later, Cincinnati came to terms with free agent outfielder Austin Hays and later DFA'd Casey Legumina.

Reds trade relief pitcher Casey Legumina to Mariners

After designating a player for assignment, major league organizations have a short window to trade, release, or outright a player to the minors. It wasn't long after the Reds acquisition of Hays that Cincinnati worked out a trade with the Seattle Mariners.

The Reds traded to Legumina to the Mariners for cash considerations. The right-hander was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and came to Cincinnati by way of a trade in 2022. Kyle Farmer was shipped to Minnesota in exchange for Legumina who never established himself in the big leagues.

Reds lose Owen White to Yankees on waiver

As for White, he was plucked off waivers on Wednesday by the New York Yankees. Originally part of the Texas Rangers organization, White was an offseason addition earlier this winter after the 2023 World Series champions let him go.

White was thought to be in competition for a spot in the Reds bullpen, and there was hope that the right-hander would pass through waivers, but the Yankees officially put an end to that. White joined the Bronx Bombers and New York jettisoned Allan Winans.

It's hard to complain about the Reds losing two of their lesser-used relievers, but it's always nice to keep those arms in reserve if possible. Cincinnati instead will head to Goodyear with a number of talented young arms looking to make an impression. Chase Burns, Chase Petty, and Jose Acuña all received a non-roster invite to join the team in Goodyear next week.
