Cam Collier will soon join his 2022 draft-mate Sal Stewart in southeast Tennessee. According to Collier himself — in a post on social media — he is on his way to Double-A Chattanooga. This latest promotion gets Collier one step closer toward achieving his Major League dreams.

Collier was the Reds first-round draft selection almost three years ago. The slugging third base prospect (and son of former Major League player Lou Colllier, fell into the Reds' lap at No. 18 and has been steadily working his way up through the minor leagues.

Collier's promotion to Double-A was delayed by an early-season injury. The 20-year-old suffered a wrist injury during spring training and began a rehab assignment with the ACL Reds before moving on up to High-A Dayton. With 11 games and nearly 50 at-bats under his belt with the Dayton Dragons, it appears that Cincinnati's scouts have seen enough to deem Collier ready for the next level of competition.

Questions were raised about Collier's physical fitness prior to the season, but the young infielder has since put those concerns to bed. Collier showed up to the Arizona Complex League in tremendous shape, and is hoping to prove the doubters wrong.

Many scouts believe Collier won't stick at third base, but that doesn't mean the Reds have given up on the idea altogether. Though Collier may eventually shift to the other side of the diamond, he'll be given plenty of opportunities to prove that he can still handle the hot corner.

It will be interesting to see how the Lookouts deploy the combination of Collier and Stewart now that both of the Reds top two third base prospects are on the same team. There is a chance, however, that Collier's promotion to Double-A will cause a domino effect and soon lead to Stewart's bump to Triple-A Louisville.

Prior to Collier's ascension to Double-A, he was hitting .293/.370/.415 in 46 plate appearances at High-A Dayton. During his minor-league career, Collier owns a .258/.365/.417 slash line with 30 home runs and 156 RBI.
