The Cincinnati Reds had an off-day on Thursday—their last one until May 12. Cincinnati is prepping for a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies before returning home for a seven-game homestand against the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals.

The Reds' current roadtrip hasn't gone according to plan. Cincinnati's scoring barrage last Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles didn't carry over to the three-game series in Miami. The Reds lost 2-of-3 to the Marlins, but Austin Wynns' heroics on Wednesday helped Cincinnati avoid a sweep.

The Reds are visiting some old friends in Denver this weekend—Kyle Farmer, Nick Martini, and Jimmy Herget are all on the Rockies' roster—but the club had some business to attend to before the three-game series gets underway this evening.

Reds News: Randy Wynne DFA'd, still part of the organization

Randy Wynne's time in the big leagues is over; at least for now. Cincinnati selected Wynne's contract from Triple-A Louisville earlier this week after placing Carson Spiers on the injured list. But after Nick Lodolo returned to the active roster, Wynne was optioned back to Triple-A.

But according to the Reds' transaction log, Wynne was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville. The right-hander will return to the Bats' roster, and likely rejoin the starting rotation. Wynne picked up the rare three-inning save on Sunday, and is solid depth piece to have in the minor leagues. Cincinnati now has a vacancy on the 40-man roster.

Reds News: Former starter Connor Overton signs MiLB deal with Blue Jays

A former Reds' pitcher has a new home north of the border. Connor Overton, who was part of the Reds' Opening Day roster in 2023, signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. Overton's former manager, David Bell, is part of Toronto's front office, and no doubt put in a good word for him.

Overton hasn't pitched in the big leagues since suffering an elbow injury back in 2023. Overton struggled during his first three starts that year, and wound up on the 60-day IL after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He made 17 minor-league appearances for the Reds last season, and signed with the New York Mets after being released during the offseason. Overton pitched well during spring training, but didn't make the Mets' Opening Day roster.

Reds News: Tyler Callihan's hit-streak reaches 20 games

Tyler Callihan is a begging for a call-up. The Reds' No. 29 ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline is riding a 20-game on-base streak while hitting .321/.430/.551 with four home runs and 11 RBI. Callihan was added to the Reds' 40-man roster this past offseason after enduring several difficult years in the minors.

Injuries derailed Callihan's career. A bat-first infielder coming out of high school during the 2019 MLB Draft, Callihan watched the coronavirus pandemic cancel the minor-league season in 2020, and then suffered a UCL injury in 2021 that required season-ending surgery. It wasn't until 2023 that he finally started to return to form. If he keeps hitting like he has through the first 20 games of the season, Callihan may force the Reds to give him a shot in the big leagues.
