The Major League Baseball offseason is in full swing, and a trio Cincinnati Reds players have officially entered the free agent market. Tyler Stephenson, Brady Singer, and Brock Burke will be free to sign with another team as early November 2 provided the Reds don't attach a qualifying offer to any of those three players.
Though there were rumors earlier this summer of the Reds extending a QO to Singer, that idea seems to have diminished following the right-hander's horrendous performance during the second-half of the 2026 season. Singer went 3-6 with a 7.35 ERA after the All-Star break.
Reds closer Emilio Pagán has a decision to make
Emilio Pagán could soon join Stephenson, Singer, and Burke on the open market. The Reds' closer has a $10 million player-option for the 2027 season, and has until November 2 to decide whether or not he wants to exercise it.
Most experts and pundits assume Pagán will choose to remain in Cincinnati next season. The labor uncertainty surrounding the current collective bargaining agreement and likely lockout only increase the likelihood he'll exercise his option.
Pagán endured a tough start to the 2026 season and landed on the IL for nearly two months after suffering a hamstring injury in May. But upon his return, Pagán was one of the most dominant relievers in the game, posting a 1.88 ERA and 3.38 FIP with 19 saves over his final 30 appearances.
Reds add Hunter Greene, Spencer Steer back to 40-man roster
With the offseason officially upon us, the Reds had some housecleaning to do earlier this week. Hunter Greene, Spencer Steer, and Blake Dunn were all added back to the 40-man roster after ending the year on the 60-day IL.
Greene, of course, suffered a torn UCL and will miss all of the 2027 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Steer suffered a wrist injury in late-July that kept him out for the remainder of the season. As for Dunn, he's undergone two elbow surgeries in the past couple months, but is expected to back on the field sometime in 2027.
Rece Hinds signs MLB deal with Orioles
The Orioles have reportedly signed former Reds outfielder Rece Hinds to a one-year contract. No financial details were made available, but one can assume that it's for something close to the league minimum.
Hinds was DFA'd by the Reds earlier this year and traded to the Miami Marlins. The Marlins dumped Hinds as well, and he was picked up by the O's. In total, he appeared in just 25 Major League games while hitting .143/.211/.222. Hinds was the Reds' second round pick in 2019, but failed to find much traction outside of his first week in the big leagues.
