Outside of Hunter Greene's arthroscopic elbow surgery, the Cincinnati Reds have avoided the injury bug for the most part. Some bumps and bruises (and blisters) have forced some Reds players onto the injured list, but it appears as though a number of them are just days away from a return to the big league roster.

Nick Lodolo has been sidelined since before Opening Day after suffering a blister on the index finger of his throwing hand during his final Cactus League appearance of the spring. The Reds had initially hoped he'd miss the minimum 15 days on the IL, but during his first rehab outing with the Daytona Tortugas, he suffered a setback.

Reds News: Nick Lodolo readying for rehab assignment

Lodolo has been ramping up in recent weeks, and the Reds are now ready to send him on another rehab assignment. The lefty will join the Dayton Dragons on Sunday and is scheduled to pitch in four innings. He threw a simulated game against live hitters on Tuesday in Tampa, and the Reds feel confident that he's put the blister issue behind him.

Battling blisters has been a constant source of frustration — both for Lodolo and the Reds coaches and fans. He's been hampered by blisters over the past two seasons and has tried multiple remedies to curtail the problem.

It's safe to assume that one minor-league start won't be enough to assure the Reds coaching staff that Lodolo is ready to return. If he comes out of Sunday's game unscathed, Cincinnati will likely move his rehab to Double-A Chattanooga or Triple-A Louisville before he rejoins the Reds rotation.

Reds News: Jose Trevino & Caleb Ferguson are close to returning

Trevino is close to returning to the Reds active roster after suffering a back injury earlier this season. He was diagnosed with thoracic spine strain and placed on the IL back on April 5. He hit in a simulated game earlier this week and is expected to return this weekend when the Reds return home.

Ferguson has been on the shelf since before the season began after suffering an oblique strain. He's been steadily working his way and could be deployed on a rehab assignment any day. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, Reds fans can probably expect to see the left-hander return sometime early next month.
