Since the MLB offseason began, Cincinnati Reds fans have been clamoring for Nick Krall and the front office sign or trade for an outfielder. While the Reds roster has more than just one hole left to fill, the lack of a right-handed hitting outfielder my be the most glaring omission heading into spring training.

There's definitely hope that the combination of Spencer Steer, TJ Friedl, and Jake Fraley can put up big numbers in 2025, but last season's shortcomings certainly alter the outlook just a bit. Cincinnati could really use another bat in the outfield heading into Opening Day.

Perhaps there's help on the way. The Reds recently released their list of non-roster invitees who'll meet up with the 40-man roster in Goodyear. Among those listed were Chase Burns, Edwin Arroyo, and Cam Collier, but only one outfielder; Hector Rodriguez. Are the Reds close to making a free agent splash?

Now spring training has yet to begin, and there's a few weeks left before players report to the team's training complex in Arizona. Two of the Reds' top non-roster invitees from last season (Tony Kemp and Josh Harrison) weren't signed until February, so there's still time left to populate the roster with more outfielders.

But Krall has made no bones about it; he expects to add some outfield help this offseason. To date, every addition — unless Gavin Lux sees time on the outfield grass — has been focused on the infield and pitching staff.

There are still some big names on the open market that could definitely bolster Cincinnati's outfield ahead of Opening Day. Jurickson Profar, Randal Grichuk, and Harrison Bader would all be welcome additions to the Reds roster.

Until a move is actually made, Reds fans will continue to wish and wonder. If Cincinnati fails to snag an outfielder in free agency, perhaps the club will turn their attention to the trade market. Players like Luis Robert Jr. and Jake McCarthy could be moved this offseason, and would undoubtedly upgrade the Reds' lineup.
