Nick Krall just can't stop signing free agent pitchers. Before the ink was dry on Wade Miley's minor-league deal, the Cincinnati Reds agreed to sign former New York Yankees hurler Albert Abreu. But in addition to Abreu, the Reds have secured yet another free agent pitcher.

According to Ari Alexander of KPRC2, former Washington Nationals reliever Joe La Sorsa agreed to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training. La Sorsa signed a split-deal, similar to the one catcher Austin Wynns signed last spring. La Sorsa will take home $780K if he makes the major league roster and $180K while in the minors.

Reds sign former Nationals pitcher Joe La Sorsa

La Sorsa, 26, broke into the big leagues back in 2023 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays bullpen. A St. John's alum, La Sorsa appeared in 16 games for the Nats in last season and owned a 4.58 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 17 ⅔ innings of work. But during his time in the minors, La Sorsa posted a 2.25 ERA over 56 innings for the Rochester Red Wings.

La Sorsa has a great track record in the minor league. During five seasons, La Sorsa has compiled a 2.81 ERA with 256 punch outs over 153 games. But his minor league success hasn't translated to his major league resumé. In 41 relief appearances, La Sorsa has just 42 Ks in just over 50 innings of work with a 4.47 ERA.

Given the depth of the Reds pitching staff at the moment, you have to squint pretty hard to see La Sorsa having any real shot to make the Opening Day roster. But, as the old adage goes, you can never have enough pitching, and he would provide great depth at Triple-A Louisville.

La Sorsa will get a chance to make an impression on the Cincinnati coaching staff next month. The Reds will descend upon Goodyear, Arizona in a matter of weeks.
