The Cincinnati Reds made a number of midseason acquisitions around last year's trade deadline. Cincinnati swung a trade with their NL Central rival, the Milwaukee Brewers, that brought back reliever Jakob Junis and outfielder Joey Wiemer. The Reds also acquired first baseman Ty France in a deal with the Seattle Mariners.

But only a few Reds fans will remember that Cincinnati added Amed Rosario into the fold after he was cast aside by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rosario began the 2024 season with the Tampa Bay Rays before being traded to the Dodgers in late-July.

But once LA activated Mookie Betts off the IL, Rosario was DFA'd. The Reds, who were without Matt McLain, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, and Jeimer Candelario, swooped in a plucked Rosario off waivers to help add depth to their depleted infield.

But Rosario's production upon landing in Cincinnati was rather pathetic, and the Reds allowed him to enter free agency shortly after the 2024 season came to a close. In just 22 games with Cincinnati, the veteran infielder (who also saw time in the Reds outfield) hit just .156/.188/.211 with one home run and four RBI. Rosario's .397 OPS with the Reds was 300 points lower than his brief tenure with the Dodgers.

But Rosario has found a new home this offseason after the 29-year-old inked a one-year, $2 million deal with the Washington Nationals. He will presumably occupy a utility role in our nation's capital next season. This will mark a return to the NL East for Rosario, who spent his first four season with the New York Mets.

Given his lack of production in 2024, it's unsurprising that the Reds had zero desire to reunite with Rosario heading into the upcoming season. The Reds are hopeful for a healthy season from Matt McLain, and after adding Gavin Lux in a trade with the Dodgers earlier this week, Cincinnati has no need for another infielder.
