If the New York Yankees want to play ball with the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline, it's gonna come with a high price tag. But according to reports, Yankees GM Brian Cashman might not be willing to part with some of New York's bright, young talent.

The Yankees will be one of the most likely destinations at the trade deadline for Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo. Despite dropping 2-of-3 to the Redlegs this week, the Bronx Bombers still have the best record in baseball. But they'll be looking to upgrade their rotation prior to the August 2nd.

Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortez have been the Yankees 1-2 punch atop the starting rotation, but Cashman will be looking to add one more starter for the stretch run. However, if the Yankees want Castillo bad enough, they'll need to part with one of their top shortstop prospects.

Yankees must include Anthony Volpe or Oswald Peraza in order to trade for Reds RHP Luis Castillo.

If the New York Yankees want Luis Castillo bad enough, they'll have to surrendered one of their top prospects. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees have said they won’t part with Anthony Volpe or Oswald Peraza. If that's the case, Reds GM Nick Krall should not enter trade negotiations with Brian Cashman.

According to MLB Pipeline, both Volpe (8) and Peraza (38) are Top 50 prospects. Both are talented shortstops with a strong hit tool and power from the right side. The Yankees also have outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez ranked in the Top 50.

The Reds can be patient at the trade deadline and should be in no rush to trade Luis Castillo. He represents the best starter available this summer and should command quite the return. While the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers have talent atop their respective farm systems, if neither is willing to part with their top talent, some other clubs might be.

It's understandable that the Yankees would be unwilling to involve Anthony Vople and Oswald Peraza in trade talks. But it's also understandable that the Cincinnati Reds would be looking for a haul in return for Luis Castillo. Perhaps the two sides will not be a match at the trade deadline.
