The Cincinnati faithful should expect the trade rumors to quiet down for a couple of days while teams ready themselves for the 2022 MLB Draft. But after the All-Star break, look for the Reds rumors to heat up once again.
The Cincinnati Reds will be very busy over the next few weeks. With names like Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle, and Brandon Drury likely to be pursued very heavily by other clubs, the rumors are unlikely tto stop until the trio finds new homes or the trade deadline passes.
Castillo represents the best starting pitcher who's likely to be made available before August 2nd, and unsurprisingly, two of the best teams in baseball will be looking to secure his services.
According to the latest Reds rumors, the Yankees and Dodgers are favorites to trade for Luis Castillo.
We've heard the names already, but according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are the favorites to trade for Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo.
The Yankees got an up-close view of Castillo during yesterday's game. The right-hander went seven innings and allowed just one run on two hits while striking out eight batters. Castillo threw 114 pitches, 74 of which were strikes. He also, uncharacteristically, walked four batters.
Heyman notes the very thin market for starting pitching as the trade deadline approaches, and suggests that the Yankees and Dodgers are two of the teams with the most prospect capital to make a trade happen.
The Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Diego Padres have been mentioned as possible suitors for Luis Castillo as well. Two other teams to watch at the trade deadline would be the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Cincinnati Reds do not have to trade Luis Castillo this summer. If the front office does not get the offer they're looking for Cincinnati could look to deal La Piedra in the offseason; he does not become a free agent until after the 2023 season.
The Reds rumors may quiet down for the next several days, but look for them to ramp up during the middle of the next week. There's a very good chance that Luis Castillo will be pitching for someone else after August 2nd. Might it be the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Dodgers?
