Noteworthy broadcaster strangely omitted from 2025 Reds TV crew

It's going to look a little different.

After initially agreeing to allow Major League Baseball to broadcast games during the 2025 season, the Cincinnati Reds quickly pivoted back to FanDuel Sports Network (formerly Bally Sports). The deal afforded Cincinnati a little more spending money this offseason, and the Reds made a handful of additions — Taylor Rogers and Austin Hays — after reaffirming their broadcaster partnership.

But the Reds broadcast crew will look just a little bit different during the upcoming season. While John Sadak, Barry Larkin, Chris Welsh, and Jim Day will be back in the booth, 91.7 WVXU is reporting that Annie Sabo will not return in 2025.

The daughter of former Reds' Rookie of the Year Chris Sabo, Annie was part of the Bally Sports pre and postgame conversation in 2024 and also served a part-time role as Cincinnati's on-the-field reporter.

With Sabo now gone, Reds fans should look toward the duo of Brian Giesenschlag and Sam LeCure to cover this year's pre and postgame shows. Reds Live as it was known during Cincinnati's tenure with Bally Sports typically aired 30 minutes before, and then again after every game. Sabo filled in for Giesenschlag on occasion, and Welsh would sometimes substitute for LeCure.

On the radio side of things, look for Tommy Thrall and "The Cowboy" Jeff Brantley to return to the airwaves in 2025. Thrall took over for Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman a few years ago and Brantley has been calling Reds games for the past 18 seasons.

Sadak and Larkin will surely be on the call for all Reds' home games this season and Welsh will likely sub in for the former Cincinnati shortstop when the team heads out on the road. Noticeably absent from the group of commentators is Reds legend Joey Votto, who many fans have been clamoring for since he announced his retirement last season.

And, of course, Reds' longtime on-field reporter, Day, will be back in the saddle for his 24th season. Also known throughout Reds Country for the Jim Day Podcast, the skilled correspondent will undoubtedly be roaming the dugout and sharing interesting storylines throughout the entire 2025 season.
