Even if you were rooting for Team USA in this year's World Baseball Classic, it's difficult not to appreciate Eugenio Suárez and what he did for Team Venezuela during Tuesday's tournament final. His RBI double in the top of the ninth inning was the difference in the game, and helped Venezuela win their first ever WBC title.
With the score tied 2-2 and a runner on second base, Suárez laced a line drive in left-center field that plated the go-ahead run. When he arrived at second base, an exuberant Suárez repeated pointed to the heavens in celebration, and then turned his attention to his teammates in the dugout and his family in the crowd.
Venezuela closed out the game in the ninth inning, the dugout emptied, and the celebration was in full force. FOX's Ken Rosenthal caught up with Suárez after the game and asked him what the victory meant for his country.

"I mean, what can I say about this? It's amazing," Suarez said. "God it good. All the glory is for (our) Lord Jesus. He was with us the whole time. We have to glorify. Put His name in front of everything. And nobody believed in Venezuela. But now we won the championship. And it's a celebration for all the Venezuelan country."
Reds fans are excited to have Eugenio Suárez back in Cincinnati
Cincinnati Reds fans know all too well the type of passion and enthusiasm that Suárez brings to the table, and it's one of the biggest reasons why the fanbase was so ecstatic to see him sign with this former club this past winter.
After four years away from the Queen City, Suárez agreed to a one-year, $15 million deal with the Reds back in early-February. He's expected to be the team's designated hitter in 2026 — a role he filled for Team Venezuela during the WBC.
Suárez will now return to Goodyear, Arizona as the Reds prepare to begin the regular season in just over a week. He's expected to be slotted behind Elly De La Cruz as the team's cleanup hitter on Opening Day against the Boston Red Sox.
When Suárez was asked what made Team Venezuela so special, he responded by saying unity. He went on to explain how his teammates all rallied around each other like a family, something that Reds fans saw during Suárez's first stint with Cincinnati from 2015-2021.
"We are together the whole time," Suárez said. "We're not just teammates, we are a family. This team is awesome. We are family here. That's why we play with passion, with love. Because we feel that jersey. Our country in front of us...That's why we are the champions."
Reds fans are hoping that Suárez can create that same type of family atmosphere alongside his teammates during the regular season and bring back a championship for the city of Cincinnati in 2026.
