Eugenio Suárez is one of the most popular names at this year's MLB trade deadline, and with good reason. The former Cincinnati Reds star is leading the National League in home runs this season and would immediately bolster any team's lineup for a playoff push over the second-half of the 2025 season.
But the Arizona Diamondbacks' All-Star won't come cheap. Geno is garnering loads of attention from several teams throughout Major League Baseball with the deadline merely nine days away, and the D-backs will likely wait out the market looking for the highest bidder.
If Cincinnati hopes to be in that mix, it'll cost them one of their top prospects. If Arizona holds onto Suárez through the deadline, they can then extend a Qualifying Offer to him this offseason and guarantee themselves a top selection in next year's MLB Draft. With that in mind, the D-backs can set their price tag relatively high.
Top Reds prospect Chase Petty might be the price for a Eugenio Suárez reunion
For the Reds, that would likely mean having to part with a top prospect like Chase Petty. The Diamondbacks are said to be targeting pitching at this year's trade deadline. There's no way that Chase Burns or Rhett Lowder would be part of any trade package for Suárez, but Petty could definitely be in the mix.
The former first-round pick, who the Reds acquired from the Minnesota Twins in 2022, is currently at Triple-A Louisville. While Petty has had a rough introduction to the big leagues, his performance in the minors this season has been terrific. Petty is 2-7 with a 4.14 ERA at Triple-A this season with 68 punch outs in 67⅓ innings pitched over 15 starts. Petty is widely regarded by most scouts as a top-100 prospect.

Petty alone likely wouldn't get a deal done, but it's a good place to start if you're the D-backs. Arizona will be losing both Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly to free agency this coming offseason, and their prized signing from this past offseason, Corbin Burnes, is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Reds have already stated they're unwilling to go all-in at this year's trade deadline — signaling that players like Burns, Sal Stewart, and Alfredo Duno are off limits. But with Cincinnati's pitching depth, both at the Major League and Minor League level, the Reds can afford to let go of one of their top young players if it brings back an elite bat like Suárez.
If the Reds are willing to give up Petty, they've got a chance to trade for Suárez. The question then becomes whether or other teams are willing to outbid Cincinnati in order to secure the two-time All-Star.
