Eh, we never really needed that guy anyway!

The Cincinnati Reds made numerous transactions during the offseason that could ultimately change the course of the 2025 season. Some moves were praised while others were chastised, with the offseason always acting as a stark reminder of how quickly a team can change from one season to the next.

Nick Krall made several subtractions this winter, and while all of their replacements are expected to be an improvement over what the team had in 2024, the reality is that some losses will hit harder than others.

With that in mind, which three Reds players from last year's team will fans be glad to see playing elsewhere in 2025, and which two players will the Cincinnati regret allowing to leave this offseason?

3 Reds players we'll be glad are gone in 2025

Ty France, Twins first baseman

The Minnesota Twins signed France to a one-year deal and installed him as their everyday first baseman heading into the 2025 season. France came to Cincinnati last summer at the MLB trade deadline, and while he put together a hot-streak in August, the former Seattle Mariners slugger cooled off considerably over the final few weeks of the 2024 campaign. With so many players already competing for a spot at one of the corner infield spots, Cincy won't miss France in 2025.

Luke Maile, Royals catcher

The Reds' addition of catcher Jose Trevino this offseason is arguably the club's biggest upgrade over what they had a year ago. No offense to Maile, but he was just awful in 2024. Not only was Maile's approach at the plate forgettable, but his defense was below-average as well. The Reds fans will see a huge uptick in production behind the plate when Trevino is hanging the signs for the Cincinnati pitching staff during the upcoming season.

Jonathan India, Royals infielder

This will be mildly controversial, but the Reds really won't miss India all that much in 2025. India was never able to replicate his 2021 success. After winning Rookie of the Year honors that season, Reds fans expected India to be part of the team's core moving forward. Instead injuries and sharp decline in power saw India fall out favor with the Reds' front office and fanbase. Matt McLain will be a huge upgrade over India at second base, and Cincinnati also traded for Gavin Lux. This won't be a popular take, but the Reds will be better off without India in 2025.

2 Reds players we'll wish would have stayed in 2025

Buck Farmer, Braves reliever

It felt as if Farmer was always going to return to the Reds this offseason, didn't it? After three straight seasons of above-average production, almost every fan assumed Farmer would return to Cincinnati on a one-year deal worth about $3 million. Instead, Farmer is headed back to his hometown after signing a minor-league deal with the Atlanta Braves. Farmer averaged 73 innings pitched with a 3.64 ERA the past two seasons — that's not easy to duplicate.

Jakob Junis, Guardians reliever

You can never have enough pitching, right? While Cincinnati's cupboard is far from bare, the type of production the Reds received from Junis in 2024 was rare. After stumbling out of the gate, Junis rebounded and posted a 1.66 ERA and 2.90 FIP over his final 12 appearances. Moreover, the right-hander could work as a starter or a reliever, which is no easy task. Thankfully the Reds have Nick Martinez — a player who can operate in that hybrid role — but it sure would have been nice to keep Junis in the fold as well.
