Will Elly De La Cruz will win the National League MVP in 2025? Maybe. By now, the whole baseball world is fully aware of the All-Star's immense talent — ranging from elite power and speed to phenomenal range and arm strength. The Cincinnati Reds shortstop has the tools needed to be an all-world player for years to come.
During an interview with FOX19, new Reds manager Terry Francona was asked about De La Cruz's ability to reach an MVP-level of performance. Francona seemed almost shocked by the question and said, "There is no ceiling for him."
After leading the majors in in stolen bases a year ago and finishing 9th in fWAR, De La Cruz is on track for greatness in 2025. With other rare talents like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor and others, De La Cruz has his work cut out for him.

Winning the 2025 NL MVP would certainly be difficult, but the Reds are due. Ironically, the Reds' last two MVP Award winners were 15 years apart. Barry Larkin won the award in 1995 and Joey Votto took home the honors in 2010. With it being 2025, it seems like a good year for De La Cruz to make his mark on the sport.

But even if De La Cruz doesn't win the NL MVP in 2025, Reds fans can expect another phenomenal season. During the same interview, De La Cruz was asked about his statistical goals for the upcoming season. "Like I said, there is no number, I just want to play everyday, " the Reds shortstop said. "If something comes up with that, I'm going to be grateful I'm just looking to play every day and help the team win and make the playoffs."
This response is vastly different than his bold prediction to steal 80 stolen bases in 2024. Regardless, the electrifying shortstop is set up for success in 2025. With Matt McLain returning from injury, De La Cruz could have needed protection behind him in the lineup. This could increase his on-base percentage, adding another reason for the superstar to chase the NL MVP during the upcoming season.
