The Cincinnati Reds are cruising to begin the 2026 season. Thanks to solid all-around play and the emergence of rookie slugger Sal Stewart, the Reds find themselves leading the way in the NL Central. On Friday, the Reds have a primary opportunity to squash the hopes and dreams of one of their division foes, but the weather is not cooperating.
The Reds traveled to Pittsburgh this weekend for a three-game series against a Pirates club that's struggling with both hitting and pitching at the moment. For this opportunistic Reds squad, that's a recipe for a fun weekend at the expense of one of their biggest division rivals.
Unfortunately, the rain from this seemingly endless waves of storm didn't hold off — as was originally hoped — and we're officially in a rain delay.
**UPDATE: 7:32 PM EST**
As expected, this delay will not be a lengthy one. Barring changes to the forecast or any issues getting the field ready, the Pirates announced that this game will finally get started at 8:15 p.m. EST.
First pitch is scheduled for approximately 8:15 p.m.

Reds vs. Pirates Rain Delay, 5/1/26: When will the game start?
Despite the weirdly passive aggressive part of the Pirates' announcement, there doesn't appear to be any risk of this game getting postponed. Within the next hour, the chance of rain drops off considerably. Assuming the field is kept in good shape during the delay, we should be watching baseball in two shakes of a lamb's tail. Any delay over an hour would be a bit surprising.
We will keep you updated as more information becomes available, including when a start time is announced. Sit tight, Reds fans, as the wait shouldn't be too long this evening and then the fun starts.
