Update (6/8/2025 at 3:22 p.m. ET): The Reds vs. D-backs will resume at 3:30 p.m. ET.

The Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks have entered a rain delay. A sudden burst of precipitation just exploded onto the playing surface at Great American Ball Park, and the umpiring crew halted the game after Scott Barlow threw just a handful of pitches in the top of the sixth inning.

This marks the second time during the series that the Reds and D-backs have been forced to stop play. Friday's game was halted midway through and the two teams needed to pick up where they left on Saturday in order to finish the contest. Christian Encarnacion-Strand came through with a walk-off double to win the game for Cincinnati, and the Reds took Game 2 of the three-game series by a final of 13-1

Once Sunday's game restarts, the Reds will be hoping for more of the same. The game was stopped at the top of the sixth inning with the score tied 2-2. A fifth-inning blast off the bat of backup catcher Jose Trevino knotted the score, and the two squads will need at least another three inning to determine a winner.

Reds Rain Delay vs. D-backs halts play in the 6th inning

The current batch of storms looks to be heading out of the Cincinnati area by 3:30 p.m. ET. But after all the rain the playing surface has endured the past few days, it's possible that the delay could last longer than normal.

When the game resumes, it'll be curious to see if Reds manager Terry Francona will go back to Barlow. Starting and stopping is not always the best thing for a pitcher's routine, especially for a reliever like Barlow. Cincinnati has plenty of well-rested arms in the bullpen after using just Joe La Sorsa, Brent Suter, and Lyon Richardson during Saturday's game. Ian Gibaut and Taylor Rogers haven't thrown during the entire series.

The Reds are looking to get back to .500 with a sweep of the D-backs on Sunday afternoon. Once the clouds part and the grounds crew gets to work, Cincinnati will need at least one more run (and some solid pitching) to do just that.
