The Cincinnati Reds seem to have broken out of the malaise that was plaguing them at the start of May. Sal Stewart looks like he's back after making some adjustments, and Cincinnati has the making of a dangerous team once again, especially if Elly De La Cruz keeps up what he is doing.
But, the Reds still have work to do to prove that they belong among MLB's elite, though their opportunity to do so against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday has been interrupted by some inclement weather.
After splitting the first two games of the series during a doubleheader on Saturday, the Reds have to hope that Brady Singer can keep the Cardinals' bats at bay long enough for the Cincinnati offense to put some runs up against St. Louis starter Brycen Mautz, a pitcher who's making his big league debut. Unfortunately, some rainy weather in the area has put the rubber match on hold and we are officially in a rain delay.
**UPDATE: 2:19 PM EST**
Sadly, there does not appear to be a weather window that officials feel comfortable with, so the game has been officially postponed. It will be made up as a part of a doubleheader on Monday, August 17.
Today’s Reds-Cardinals game has been postponed and will be made up as the first game of a split doubleheader on Monday, August 17, at 1:40 PM.

Reds vs. Cardinals Rain Delay, 5/24/26: When will the game start?
Unfortunately, the odds were good that this game would be impacted by rain, as is the case with a number of games on the East Coast this afternoon. The early afternoon forecast for the Cincinnati area is not promising, but the weather does appear to clear up as we get into the early evening hours.
Given how much rain is around, this could be a lengthy delay in excess of two hours, but the odds feel good that this game will actually happen. If these two division rivals can avoid mucking up their schedules later in the season when a playoff spot is up for grabs, they're surely going to try and make that happen. But Cincinnati's day-game tomorrow on the road against the New York Mets could complicate things.
We will keep this post updated as more information becomes available, including any announced estimated start times or changes in the forecast. There's a chance that they'll have to postpone this one, especially if the field gets completely ruined by all of the rain that has been coming through. If the Reds are going to play baseball today, it may end up being an evening affair.
