Reds make trio of hitters available as trade deadline buzz grows (with 1 surprising name)

The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Cincinnati Reds are known to be shopping several players who are on expiring contracts. That list would include, but is not limited to, Tyler Stephenson, Eugenio Suárez, and Brady Singer. All three could have a new address by the end of the business day on Monday.

But according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Reds have made a trio of hitters available in addition to those three players. Cincinnati is reportedly willing to move at least one from the group of Nathaniel Lowe, JJ Bleday, and Dane Myers.

It sounds as if Spencer Steer would've been in that mix as well, but he's currently on the injured list with a sprained left wrist. The Reds' slugger will be in a protective brace for at least the next two weeks before taking the next steps in his rehab. There's a chance that Steer could return to the Reds lineup sometime later this season.

It's no surprise that Lowe is mentioned among the players Cincinnati has made available. While he's certainly had a productive season with the Reds, his contract is up at the end of the 2026 season and the organization is banking on Sal Stewart occupying first base for the foreseeable future. Much like Brandon Drury in 2022, Lowe could bring back a promising young prospect in a trade.

Bleday was signed to a one-year contract this past winter and has two years of team control remaining beyond this season. The outfielder is enjoying a bounce-back season after a down-year with the Athletics in 2025 and represents a sell-high trade candidate.

With top outfield prospect Héctor Rodríguez mashing in the minor leagues, the Reds might be looking for a way to get his bat to the bigs for the final two months of the season. Moving Bleday at the deadline would certainly help clear the deck.

Reds outfielder Dane Myers emerges as surprise trade candidate

The interesting (and somewhat surprising) name on the list is Myers. The 30-year-old was an offseason addition this past December after Cincinnati shipped outfield prospect Ethan O'Donnell to the Miami Marlins shortly after Christmas.

Myers has pushed his way into the Reds' starting lineup of late in part because of his fearless approach to fielding and his success against left-handed pitching. The demand for right-handed hitting could increase his trade value as Monday's deadline approaches, and while he has three more years of team control remaining, an overpay might force Cincinnati to make a deal.

It's doubtful the Reds move all three players before the 6 p.m. ET deadline passes, but with Cincinnati's playoff chances all but evaporated, there's little reason to hold onto any of them if the price is right.
