On Monday night, Eugenio Suárez put forth the type of performance that could ignite the Cincinnati Reds offense. Suárez had not one, but two, home runs during Cincinnati's 12-0 blowout win over the New York Mets, and one of those was a grand slam.

Suárez went 2-for-4 on the night with a career-high six RBI. His grand slam in the bottom of the second inning came on a 3-2 count. He unleashed on a 90 mph cutter from Mets' reliever Jonathan Pintaro and deposited the ball over the fence in left-center field and into the Reds' bullpen.

The grand slam represented the seventh homer of the season for Suárez and the 196th of his career with Cincinnati. He's just two behind Barry Larkin for No. 11 all-time in Reds history.

Reds fans have been waiting with bated breath to watch Suárez go on one of his trademark hot streaks, and Monday's outing against the Mets could be the catalyst to such a stretch. If Cincinnati has any hope of getting back into the playoff hunt, they'll need a vintage performance from the veteran slugger.

Reds need Eugenio Suárez to be the player they know he can be

Suárez is a streaky player. When he's going good, he's usually really, really good. But when things go bad, they're oftentimes unbearable to watch. He's the type of player who can give you 40-plus home runs during a season, but will probably strike out 200 times as well. That's just who he is.

But without Elly De La Cruz in the lineup, the Reds need Suárez to be that guy. The one who can will a team to victory. That's exactly who he was on Monday night versus the Mets, and as the weather heats up in the city of Cincinnati, Reds fans are hoping to see Geno heat up as well.

"It's been tough," Suárez told RedsTV broadcaster Jim Day after Monday's win. "But like I always say, you just got to put your trust in God, and come (to the ballpark) every day and play hard and do your thing and not chase results, but believe in what you can do."

Day followed up his initial question by asking Suárez about his ability to heat up as the season moves into the warmer months of the summer. His answer was undoubtedly what every Reds fans wanted to hear.

"Like I said, it's been tough, but I know what I can do," Suárez responded. "All I have to do is come enjoy the game, enjoy my time, and enjoy my process. This game is hard, you know? (I) just come here and enjoy what I do. I'm doing it for my team, doing it for teammates, and I know at some point during the season, I got to get hits. I got to get hot. And today, maybe, is one of those days."

Reds Country is hoping that Suárez is right. If Monday's six-RBI performance is what he needed to jumpstart his season, the Reds could be in for something special as the summer moves along.
