Do you remember the old television show "Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego?" If they ever rebooted that series, Joey Votto should audition. Votto has famously travelled all over the globe, and of late, has taken to showcase his overseas exploits on social media.

On Tuesday, Votto snapped a selfie of himself outside the Tokyo Dome in Japan ahead of the Tokyo Series Opener between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs and shared it to his Instagram account.

While it used to be commonplace for the city of Cincinnati to host the first game of the MLB season, that has not been the case for quite some time. It started with Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN hosting the first game of the season, and now MLB's desire to grow the game outside of the states has taken priority over the city of Cincinnati playing host to the first game of the year.

Reds legend Joey Votto makes surprise visit to Dodgers-Cubs Tokyo Series Opener

This faux Opening Day took place overseas in Japan, and the Dodgers dispatched of the Cubs 4-1 after a sterling performance from LA starting pitcher Yoshinubo Yamamoto. Of course, Shohei Ohtani got the Dodgers' offense jumpstarted, and LA's bullpen did the rest. The Dodgers and Cubs will play another game on Wednesday, and Reds fans are hoping that their NL Central division rivals get off to an 0-2 start to the season.

As for Votto, not much is known about the former Reds first baseman plans' for 2025. After being released by Cincinnati last offseason, Votto latched on with his hometown Toronto Blue Jays after signing a minor-league deal. Votto suffered an injury during spring training, and his attempt to rehab and return to the big leagues fell short. Votto annouced his retirement midway through last season.

Many Reds fans would love to see Votto return to the organization in some capacity. Some aspire to see Votto don a headset and join the Reds broadcast, while others would prefer to see him offer some tutoring to the Cincinnati's young talent. There's always the possibility that Votto follows in the footsteps of another Reds' icon, Barry Larkin, and takes on a front office adviser role in the near future.

But for now, Votto seems to enjoy being a spectator and watching the game that he loves so much. But you may need to become a gumshoe and join Acme CrimeNet in order to find out where in the world Joey Votto.
