Nick Senzel may finally find success with his newest team. After failing to find any footing with the Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, and even the Chicago White Sox, Senzel will now be playing for the Tecolotes De Los Dos Laredos of the Mexican League.

Senzel was a once prized-prospect in the Reds farm system. A former first-round pick, Senzel shined during his minor-league career, though he was slowed by multiple injuries. With Eugenio Suárez installed as the Reds starting third baseman heading into the 2019 season, Cincinnati made the decision to shift Senzel's focus to the outfield.

The Reds needed to replace Billy Hamilton after parting ways following the 2018 season, and Senzel's best chance to break camp with the big league club was as the team's starting centerfielder. But the Reds chose Scott Schebler over Senzel, and the former Tennessee Volunteer suffered an ankle injury just before the 2019 season began.

But Senzel rallied and made his big league debut in May of that year. After a successful first few months in the big leagues, it looked as though Senzel would turn into a cornerstone for the Reds moving forward. But the rookie suffered a season-ending injury in 2019 after crashing into the outfield wall.

Multiple injury-plagued years crippled Senzel's career, and after a tumultuous season in 2023 (which even included a trip back to the minor leagues), he was finally let go during the offseason. Senzel's hit just .209/.303/.359 with the Nats before being designated for assignment. The former No. 2 overall pick latched on with the lowly Chicago White Sox for just 10 games before being released.

Based on the fact that he's headed south of the border, Senzel must've received little to no interest from major league teams. This is quite the fall from grace for Senzel; a player who possessed so much promise after being selected in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

Senzel will now be linked with the likes of Jeff Gelalich, Nick Howard, and even current Reds prosect Austin Hendrick. But Senzel's failures are more notable, simply because he was taken with the second-overall pick. Obviously the hope is that Senzel finds success in the Mexican League, and somehow finds his way back stateside. But Senzel's track record doesn't offer much hope in that regard.
