Reds vs. Diamondbacks prediction and pick
Cruz is going to operate as an opener for the Reds in hopes of getting the team off to a strong start. The offesne should provide ample run support against Davies, who has struggled all season long amidst injuries and ineffective play.
Davies is coming off the injured list, making his first start since July 18th. It's been a dismal season for the veteran, who has an ERA of 7.38 in 12 starts. This is a Reds lineup that brings a ton of young power, and considering Davies has struggled to generate swings and misses, I believe Cincinnati can give the bullpen necessary cushion to grab a win. Davies has allowed more than 10 hits per nine innings and is walking more than four batters per nine innings.
Even at home, I can't trust Davies to hold off this Cincinnati offense that is above the big league average in OPS. I'll take the road underdog.
