The Field of Dreams Game will be held in Dyersville, Iowa this Thursday evening. After last year's game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox drew rave reviews, Major League Baseball decided to run it back this year with the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs taking center stage.
The Yankees and White Sox put together an unbelievable performance in the corn field last year and MLB is hoping for the same with this year's matchup. While fans aren't going to see Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton in the outfield, the Reds and Cubs still have some of the biggest stars in the game.
Former MVP and Reds first baseman Joey Votto and Cubs outfielder Ian Happ will both be mic'd up during the game. Chicago's All-Star catcher Willson Contreras will also be on the diamond and hanging the signs for the Cubs.
How to watch the Field of Dreams Game between the Reds and Cubs.
While the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs may be playing for nothing more than third-place in the National League Central Division, the history surrounding both ball clubs can not be ignored.
The Cincinnati Reds are well-regarded as the oldest professional franchise in sports and the Chicago Cubs have been in existence since 1876 and were a founding member of the National League. The two NL Central rivals will go head-to-head in Iowa on Thursday night at 7 PM ET on FOX.
For those hoping to hear Joe Buck on the call, I'm sorry to disappoint but he no longer works for FOX. John Smoltz, however, will be alongside his new partner Joe Davis who'll have the call for this year's Field of Dreams Game.
Nick Lodolo will start the game for the Reds. The left-handed rookie last took the ball on August 6th in Milwaukee. Lodolo went 4.2 innings while striking out four and walking four as well. The southpaw allowed two homers during the game, but the Reds escaped with a 7-5 victory. This will be the first time Lodolo has faced the Cubs in his career.
It's sure to be a magical night full of pageantry and entertainment. The Reds are 3-4 in their seven games versus the Cubs this season. The Field of Dreams Game is considered a home game for the Cincinnati Reds who'll finish up the three-game affair with the Chicago Cubs back at Great American Ball Park over the weekend.
