The New York Mets are going to be without starting pitcher Tylor Megill for at least a month. According to the New York Post, the right-hander has a right shoulder strain.

Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer are already on the Injured List, so this latest blow takes New York's top three arms out of the starting rotation.

While the Mets have fared well with the likes of Carlos Carrasco, Tijuan Walker, and Chris Bassitt in the starting rotation, adding another starter would certainly help. The Mets also have the Atlanta Braves nipping at their heels in the chase for the AL East crown.

Will the Mets engage in trade talks for Reds starter Tyler Mahle?

With some obvious holes in their starting rotation, the New York Mets may look to make a trade before the August 2nd deadline. Cincinnati Reds starter Tyler Mahle would make a lot of sense and will likely be available in trade discussions.

What Mahle has done in his previous four starts has been absolutely amazing. The right-hander does not have a win in his last four starts, but he owns. 1.30 ERA and has 36 punch outs in 27.1 innings of work. That includes nine shutout innings during his last start.

Mahle's performance or late has surely garnered the attention of the New York Mets, as well as other ball clubs looking to improve their starting rotation. Mahle also does not become a free agent until after the 2023 season, which only increases his trade value.

The Cincinnati Reds do not appear to have any long-term plans for Tyler Mahle. If that's accurate, then Cincinnati's front office should not be shy about shopping the 27-year-old in the coming weeks.

The New York Mets have already been rumored to have sent scouts to watch Mahle pitch earlier this season. If Mahle performs well in his next start, it wouldn't be surprising for Billy Eppler to give Nick Krall a phone call.
