The Cincinnati Reds are narrowing down those players who will be in camp over the final few weeks of spring training, and Edwin Arroyo is among those players who'll no longer be part of the festivities.

On Thursday, the Reds announced a number of players who were re-assigned to minor league camp. Arroyo, Blake Dunn, and Rhett Lowder were the most recognizable names who will now likely begin the 2024 season in the minor leagues.

Others who were re-assigned include right-handed pitchers Julian Aguiar Chase Petty, infielder Tyler Callihan, and catchers Michael Trautwein and Mat Nelson

These roster cuts shouldn't come as much of surprise to anyone. Reds manager David Bell and the coaching staff will need to make some tough decisions in the coming days. The overwhelming majority of players who were re-assigned to minor league camp had virutally no chance to be part of the Reds Opening Day roster.

Arroyo, however, gave Reds fans a preview of coming attractions. The slick-fielding shortstop showed off his glove and his bat during his brief time playing in the Cactus Leauge this spring. Arroyo's skills were on full-display and many fans wonder if he'll soon replace Elly De La Cruz at shortstop and force last year's rookie to another position.

Petty and Lowder gave Reds fans a lot to be excited about. While the Cincinnati faithful are eager to see how Andrew Abbott, Brandon Williamson, and Connor Phillips perform during the upcoming season, the Reds have a wave of young arms coming up quickly through the minor leagues as well.

Many of the players who were re-assigned to minor league camp with participate in the newly announced MLB Spring Breakout. The four-day event will be held next week and feature some of the top prospects throughout every major league organization. Arroyo, Lowder, and Aguiar will be among those participating in the event.
