The Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners are moving on to the next round. Both the Guardians and the Mariners won their respective Wild Card matchups and are headed to the American League Divisional Series.
The Guardians will begin their five-game series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday in the Bronx. The Mariners go on the road to battle their division rival, the Houston Astros, in a best-of-five series that begins on Tuesday as well.
While we take a look at former Cincinnati Reds who'll be appearing in the 2022 ALCS, one name you won't find is former closer Aroldis Chapman. The Cuban Missile has been grounded after missing out on a team function and will be left off the playoff roster.
Which former Reds players will be playing in the 2022 ALDS?
Taking a look at the Seattle Mariners playoff roster, former Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez will be leading the charge. Geno went 4-for-9 versus the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend. Joining Suarez will be Luis Castillo, who dominated the Jays on Friday, and former catcher Curt Casali. Former first-round pick Taylor Trammell will probably be part of the M's playoff roster as well.
The Mariners will battle the AL West Champions, the Houston Astros, who are led by former Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker. Baker guided he Reds to two NL Central titles and three playoff berths in his six years at the helm. The Astros do not employ any former Reds players.
Believe it or not, there's not a single ex-Reds player on the Cleveland Guardians roster. Cincinnati reliever Ian Gibaut suited up for the Guardians earlier this season, albeit for just one game.
The Guardians play the AL East Champion New York Yankees in the 2022 ALCS. The Yankees are led by former infielder Aaron Boone as he is now in his fifth year as the New York skipper. Former Reds reliever Wandy Peralta is coming off injury, but is expected to join the Bronx Bombers on Tuesday in New York for Game 1.
