The 2023 MLB Draft will be held during the All-Star break later this summer, but that doesn't mean that the scouting department for the Cincinnati Reds has been lying dormant for the past couple of months.
In fact, the Reds scouts are probably more active right now than they'll be all year long. Both high school and college baseball are in full swing and team are trying to take in as many games as possible featuring the next young crop of MLB stars.
One area that Reds Country would love to see the team address in the upcoming MLB Draft is the outfield. The fanbase feels as though the front office has neglected that area of late while putting a larger emphasis on athletes that play up the middle - namely shortstops.
The Reds should keep an eye on Enrique Bradfield Jr. during the 2023 MLB Draft
Well, you're not likely to find a better athlete who plays up the middle than Vanderbilt centerfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. The speedy outfielder is ranked among the top college outfielders in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Bradfield Jr. is enjoying his junior season with the Commodores and continues to be impressive, not just with his glove, but his bat as well. Bradfield Jr. is one of those rare outfield prospects who has blazing speed, but can also handle the bat.
Bradfield Jr. has elite-speed that enables the 21-year-old to track down balls in the outfield that few others could. He's also a problem on the base paths. Bradfield Jr. had over 45 stolen bases during his first two season in Nashville and is well on his way for a third.
When you look at the Cincinnati Reds farm system, it's severely lacking in terms of top-level outfield talent. According to MLB Pipeline, Jay Allen II is the top-rated (No. 12) outfield prospect. However, injuries have slowed his ascent through the farm system, and most experts predict it'll be at least another two years before Allen II even sniffs the major leagues.
The Cincinnati Reds should take a long look at Enrique Bradfield Jr. during the 2023 MLB Draft. He has the opportunity to be an impact player at the major league level.
