The Reds should not take a flier recently DFA'd outfielder Clint Frazier

Clint Frazier was designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs earlier today. While the Cincinnati Reds could use some help in the outfield, there's no need to bring Frazier on board.

Every time the New York Yankees' fanbase voiced the desire to make a trade for Luis Castillo, Frazier was always the first player the Cincinnati faithful would mention as part of a possible return.

Yes, I'm even I'm growing tired of seeing Aristides Aquino in David Bell's starting lineup and this team has seen countless injuries during the first two-plus months of the season, but Clint Frazier is not going to fix the Reds' woes.

The Reds should not take a flier on Clint Frazier.

Clint Frazier's time in New York was mired in drama, and that's something the Cincinnati Reds don't need. Frazier doesn't just happen to be available because he was playing well, the former first-round pick was designated for assignment by a team that is not in playoff contention.

Frazier is hitting .216/.356/.297 with only eight hits on the season. The 27-year-old has only appeared in 19 games this season. Much of Frazier's absence from the lineup can be attributed to surgery that underwent earlier this season for appendicitis.

Still, Frazier was a free agent this past offseason and signed just before the lockout. If the Cincinnati Reds had even the slightest inkling that he could've helped this team, they'd have pursued him over the winter.

Outside of his 2020 season, in which he appeared in just 39 games, Frazier has been a below-average and a very poor defender. According to FanGraphs, Clint Frazier has -20 defensive saved for his career.

Tyler Naquin is currently out of the lineup, but he's expected to return in about a month. In his stead, TJ Friedl is getting the opportunity to showcase his talents. Albert Almora Jr. has shined during his brief time with the team, and Max Schrock will be returning to action very soon. Sorry, I don't want to see Clint Frazier in a Cincinnati Reds uniform.
