The New York Mets' starting rotation has been decimated by injuries, and the latest Reds rumors seem to suggest they're looking to fix that. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Mets are showing early interest in Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo.

Heyman also mentioned the possibility of the Mets targeting Castillo's teammate Tyler Mahle, and also reported that the San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins have shown interest in trading for Castillo as well.

The question now becomes, how quickly might we see the New York Mets make a move to acquire the former All-Star? Furthermore, what might Cincinnati be able to receive in return for Castillo's services?

Latest Reds rumors suggest Luis Castillo could be headed to the New York Mets.

The New York Mets two best pitchers, Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom, are currently on the Injured List. Scherzer is currently on a rehab assignment and could return early next week. But the jury is still out on how long deGrom will be absent from the Mets' starting rotation.

These latest Reds rumors shouldn't come as a surprise to the Cincinnati faithful. The Reds have already traded Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez, Amir Garrett, Tucker Barnhart, and Sonny Gray. Luis Castillo and Tyler Mahle will be two of the most popular names on the trade market his summer.

The MLB trade deadline has been pushed back until August 2nd this year, but that might not delay the inevitable if the New York Mets have anything to say about it. With their rotation reeling from injuries, the Mets may look to make a trade sooner rather than later.

Heyman also mentioned Oakland A's starter Frankie Montas as a possibility. Montas, like Castillo and Mahle, will not become a free agent until after the 2023 season. This is likely to be the first of many Reds rumors involving Cincinnati's top two hurlers.
