Will scorching-hot Reds prospect Noelvi Marte make his major league debut in 2023?
Noelvi Marte is the one of the Cincinnati Reds top prospects, and is regarded as one of the best in all of baseball. Marte has shown the ability to hit for both average and power while playing for the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds Double-A affiliate) this season.
This is Marte's first stint in Double-A, but the 21-year-old got off to a bit of a slow start. After making some adjustments, Marte is hitting near .300 with an OPS above .875. His power has been unreal as it seems like Marte leaves the yard on a daily basis.
This kind of production will make Reds fans begin to wonder if Marte will actually make his major league debut in 2023. The next couple of months in southeastern Tennessee could give the fanbase their answer rather quickly.
Will scorching-hot Reds prospect Noelvi Marte make his major league debut in 2023?
Will Noelvi Marte's production translate to the next level? With Matt McLain already up with the big league club and Elly De La Cruz knocking on the door, there's likely an opening on the Triple-A roster whenever the Cincinnati Reds deem Marte ready for the next level of competition.
Marte and the Reds have two choices with the future of his career. They could either stick him at shortstop, where he is a few steps behind Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz or they could transition him around the infield or even into the outfield.
Either Marte or De La Cruz will have to make the position switch from shortstop, and with the Reds idea to add some size to Marte's frame, it very well could be him.
Marte is more than capable at handling himself at third base or even in a switch to the outfield, as a prospect has above-average speed and athleticism. Even a move to first base could work, though it might be a waste of his plus-arm.
The arrival of Noelvi Marte in Cincinnati is imminent. The infielder might not get the call up this season, but don't expect Marte to stay in the minors for much longer. He seems ready, at the very least, to make the leap to Triple-A.
