These 3 Reds prospects are better than the Yankees top prospect
The Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees find themselves in headed in two different directions. The Reds are in the midst of a rebuild, after blowing up their roster over the last few seasons. The Yankees are in win-now mode, including a much higher payroll than their foes in Cincinnati.
The two clubs also have vastly different farm systems at the moment. The Reds, according to MLB Pipeline, feature six prospects ranked in the top 100 while the Yankees feature just one.
Jasson Dominguez, ranked 37th in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline, is the Yankees top-rated prospect. The Reds, however, have three prospect rated higher than Dominguez.
These 3 Reds prospects are better than the Yankees top prospect.
Edwin Arroyo (35) has some of the highest potential in all of the minor leagues. Arroyo is a switch-hitting shortstop with an incredible glove. At just 19 years old, Arroyo has the potential to be a versatile and dynamic difference-maker in the future of the Cincinnati Reds infield.
At the 2022 trade deadline, the Reds were rumored to have discussed a trade with the Yankees for some of their top prospects in exchange for Luis Castillo. Instead, the Reds dealt Castillo to the Seattle Mariners, where they received a package headlined by the shortstop, Noelvi Marte.
Marte has shown some incredible power and run producing potential in his young professional career. The 21-year-old got off to a rather slow start to 2023, before going on an absolute tear of late. Marte has totaled eight home runs and six doubles, with many of his extra-base hits coming with impressive exit velocity numbers.
The Reds most exciting prospect, and arguably the best prospect in baseball, is Elly De La Cruz. De La Cruz has been on fire recently, but has also shown tremendous plate discipline as well, drawing 13 walks in his last 10 games.
The trio of Edwin Arroyo, Noelvi Marte, and Elly De La Cruz create perhaps the best core of any farm system throughout baseball. Add to that the likes of Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Andrew Abbott, Brandon Williamson, and Cam Collier, and the future of the Cincinnati Reds looks very bright.
