Who do the Cincinnati Reds play on Lou Gehrig Day?
On June 2nd, 1925, Lou Gehrig was named the New York Yankees starting first baseman, beginning his streak of 2,130 consecutive games played. Just 16 years later, to the day, Gehrig passed away due to complications with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), now oftentimes referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Eighty years after his death, in 2021, Major League Baseball announced that June 2nd would now and forever be known and celebrated as Lou Gehrig Day. It has become a day to remember and celebrate the New York Yankees and baseball legend, as well as raising money to fight Lou Gehrig disease.
On the 3rd annual Lou Gehrig Day, the Cincinnati Reds will play host to their division rival, the Milwaukee Brewers. The pitching matchup is expected to be former Cy Young Award-winner Corbin Burnes versus rookie left-hander Brandon Williamson.
