Reds News: Rhett Lowder's MLB debut, rookie lefty added to bullpen, Nick Senzel

At least there's a bit of good news this week.

The Cincinnati Reds lost another game to the Oakland A's on Wednesday night. This time, after finally scoring a barrage runs in the seventh inning, the Reds gave the lead right back. A three-run homer in the eighth inning turned a 6-5 Reds' lead into an 8-6 deficit.

The Reds are reeling, and the month of September is looking to be a very painful one for the folks in the Queen City. But help is on the way in the form of one of the Reds' top prospects. When will Rhett Lowder make his major league debut?

Reds News: Rhett Lowder to debut in doubleheader vs. Brewers

The Reds have yet to make it official, but there are more than enough columnists and beat writers reporting that Lowder's call-up to the big leagues is imminent. Mark Sheldon of MLB.com is citing sources that Lowder will be the Reds' starter for Game 2 of the day-night doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday at Great American Ball Park.

In a season filled with so much negativity, it's nice to see a positive bit of Reds news for a change. Lowder began his season at High-A, and after just one start at Triple-A Louisville, the Reds have deemed him ready for The Show. The Reds will need to add Lowder to the 40-man roster before he can toe the rubber on Friday, so look for a corresponding move sometime tomorrow.

Reds News: Evan Kravetz added to bullpen

In addition to the eventual promotion of Lowder, the Reds also made a relatively minor transaction before Wednesday's game as well. Evan Kravetz, a former draft pick of the Reds back in 2019, was called up to the major leagues.

Kravetz did his job on Wednesday after entering the game in place of Casey Kelly. Kravetz nearly ended the inning after inducing a ground ball to Jonathan India, but the Reds' were unable to turn two, and another run crossed the plate. The A's next batter, Brent Rooker, grounded into an inning-ending force out, and Kravetz limited the damage.

Reds News: Nick Senzel elects free agency

Nick Senzel is on the move once again. The former Reds first-round pick was designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox just last week and has chosen to enter free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Birmingham.

Senzel's failure with the Reds have been well chronicled. The University of Tennessee product never found success in Cincinnati and was non-tendered last fall. Senzel latched on with the Washington Nationals this past offseason, but was DFA'd by the Nats this summer. If he's able to secure another contract before the season is up, it'll be Senzel's fourth franchise in less than one year.
