The Cincinnati Reds got off the schneid on Monday at the Rogers Centre with a 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. During the previous week, the Reds swept the St. Louis Cardinals right out of Cincinnati, only to turn around and be outscored 28-3 in a three-game thrashing at the hands of the Kansas City Royals.

The Reds sit 5.5 games back in the hunt for the final NL Wild Card spot and are in a tie with the Chicago Cubs for third place in the NL Central. Cincinnati needs to string together a number of wins in order to bolster their playoff chances with a little over a month left until the MLB Postseason begins.

Reds News: Julian Aguiar's MLB debut was a success

It didn't last as long as some Reds fans would have preferred, but rookie pitcher Julian Aguiar put his team in position to win during his first taste in the big leagues on Monday night in Toronto. Aguiar logged four innings and allowed just two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.

Aguiar gave up a first-inning home run to All-Star infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but then settled in during the second inning and recorded his very first strikeout. Aguiar then got his second punch out of the game to end the fourth inning before being lifted for Tony Santillan. The right-hander threw just 57 pitches, but manager David Bell obviously had a plan to pull Aguiar before facing the Blue Jays batting order a third time through.

Reds News: Amed Rosario expected to join Cincy on Tuesday

According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds are expected to activate newly acquired infielder Amed Rosario before Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. A corresponding move will need to be made before Rosario officially joins the active roster.

Most Reds fans assume that one of Will Benson or Noelvi Marte will be the odd-man out when Rosario is added to the Reds roster. Neither player was in the lineup on Monday against Toronto.

Reds News: Brent Suter set for rehab assignment

The Reds have been without reliever Brent Suter for the past several weeks after the Cincinnati native suffered a partial tear of the teres major muscle in his left shoulder. But the southpaw has recovered rather quickly and threw a bullpen session on Monday in Toronto.

Suter should be ticketed for a rehab stint with the Louisville Bats in the very near future and could be back on the bump for the Reds within the next couple of weeks. This is great news as the Reds could use all the bullpen depth they can get.
