Reds News: Jonathan India injury, TJ Friedl health scare, lefty reliever placed on IL
Jonathan India was in pain during Sunday's game.
The Cincinnati Reds snapped the New York Mets' nine-game winning steak on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field thanks in large part to a two-RBI double off the bat of Santiago Espinal. The Reds and Mets were tied heading into the ninth inning during the series finale, and Cincinnati's infielder came up clutch yet again with a base hit to left field that plated both Spencer Steer and Ty France.
The Reds won 3-1 and snapped their two-game skid. Cincinnati dropped the first two games of their series in Queens, but were able to salvage a victory before heading to Atlanta for a one-game series against the Braves.
Reds News: Jonathan India injured his elbow vs. NY Mets
One player who may not be in the starting lineup on Monday night in Atlanta is Jonathan India. The Reds second baseman struck out in the top of the sixth inning and was replaced by Amed Rosario when Cincinnati took the field in the bottom-half of the inning.
India was reportedly removed from the contest due to left elbow discomfort. During India's final at-bat of the day, he can be seen wincing in pain as he follows through with his swing. No further update was given after Sunday's game.
Reds News: TJ Friedl experienced health scare on Saturday
Conspicuous by his absence from Sunday's starting lineup, TJ Friedl experienced a health scare on Saturday that required the Reds outfielder to make a trip to the hospital. Friedl left Saturday's game against the Mets after experiencing shortness of breath, but all the testing came back clean.
Though Friedl was out of David Bell's lineup initially on Sunday, the 29-year-old did come as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning to hit for catcher Luke Maile. Friedl lined out during his lone at-bat and should be expected back in the lineup on Monday at Atlanta.
Reds News: Sam Moll placed on 15-day IL
Prior to the start of Sunday's game against the Mets, the Reds placed left-handed reliever Sam Moll on the 15-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement. The injury will likely end Moll's 2024 campaign. The Reds recalled right-handed reliever Casey Legumina to take Moll's place on the active roster.
Moll started the season on the IL, but returned midway through the year and was arguably one of Cincinnati's best relievers. If Moll's 2024 season is indeed over, the southpaw will finish the year with a 3-2 record and 3.35 ERA in 38 appearances.
