Jackie Robinson Day will take place around Major League Baseball on Friday, April 15th commemorating and honoring the day the Jackie Robinson made his debut. All players, coaches, and managers will be wearing Robinson's No. 42 as a tribute to the Hall of Famer.

Major League Baseball first officially recognized Jackie Robinson Day in 2004 with April 15th serving as Opening Day during the 1947 season; the year that Robinson became the first black player in the modern era to suit up in the major leagues. Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers who have since relocated to Los Angeles.

This year will mark the 75th anniversary of Robinson stepping onto a major league field. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Cincinnati Reds third baseman Mike Moustakas, along with several other players, will donate his salary from Friday's game to invest in struggling inner city and rural baseball teams.

Mike Moustakas is not alone, as Nightengale cites New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks, Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Lorenzo Cain, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher David Price, and Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward as being just as generous with their salaries from Friday's game as well.

That's a very nice gesture on behalf of Moustakas. The Cincinnati Reds signed the infielder to a four-year/$64M contract prior to the 2020 season and Moose is taking home $16M this season. That amounts to about $98,000 that Moustakas will be donating to charity.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the shortened baseball season prevented Major League Baseball from celebrating Jackie Robinson Day on the field in 2020, though the day was moved to August 28th to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the day Robinson met Branch Rickey to discuss joining the Dodgers.
