The Cincinnati Reds are in the thick of the playoff race as September winds down. Cincinnati looks as though they will battle to the end of the season along with several other teams looking to secure a Wild Card spot.

In the American League Central, however, the Minnesota Twins have seemingly locked up a postseason appearance. In recent years the Reds and Twins have been frequent trade partners.

There are actually six former Reds players currently on the Twins 40-man roster. Lets take a closer look at these former Reds who are now playing in Minnesota.

How many former Reds players are on the Twins roster?

The most notable former Cincinnati Reds player on the list is Sonny Gray. Gray is 7-7 on the season with a 2.96 ERA. The right-hander played for the Reds from 2019-2021 and was named an All-Star in 2019.

Speaking of former Reds pitchers, Cincinnati selected Tyler Mahle in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Mahle suited up for the Reds from 2017 until a mid-season trade in 2022.

Cincinnati traded Mahle to Minnesota in exchange for Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Steve Haijar. Mahle is currently on 60-day injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery earlier this year.

Jose De Leon is another former Reds pitcher that currently finds himself on the 60-day IL. De Leon appeared in just 12 games for Minnesota this season but has been on the IL since July after undergoing Tommy John surgery as well. De Leon, much like current Reds pitcher Tejay Antone, underwent the procedure for a second time.

Another reliever who appeared in a Reds uniform for a short time is right-hander Dylan Floro. The 32-year-old was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 after pitching in 25 games for the Cincinnati Reds.

As for former Reds position players now on the Twins roster, Kyle Farmer jumps out as the biggest name on that list. Farmer was a leader in the clubhouse, and arguably the Reds best player last season. Farmer was traded to Minnesota in the offseason in exchange for reliever Casey Legumina.

Last year's free agent signee Donovan Solano is also on the Minnesota Twins roster. Donnie Barrels hit .284 in 80 games for the Cincinnati Reds last season. Solano has been that same consistent presence in Minnesota this season, hitting .283 in 125 games for the Twins.

Former Reds players will be well represented on the field tonight at Great American Ball Park. And while Sonny Gray is not scheduled to pitch in the series, he's sure to get a warm welcome from the Cincinnati faithful.
