Reds rookie Elly De La Cruz unsurprisingly wins NL Player of the Week Award

This week, Elly De La Cruz became the third Cincinnati Reds player to win the National League Player of the Week Award during the 2023 season.

De La Cruz joins infielder/ outfielder Nick Senzel and shortstop Matt McLain as the other Reds players who have take home such honors this season. With how well De La Cruz has played, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him take home this award multiple times in 2023.

This award comes as De La Cruz has spent less than a month in the major leagues. The 21-year-old's play this past week continues to amaze and astound the fans throughout Reds Country and beyond.

The Cincinnati Reds rookie sensation finished this past week going 11-for-25 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and eight runs scored. Elly De La Cruz's OPS was an astounding 1.342 OPS.

The ultimate moment, however, occurred on Friday night in front of a sold out crowd at Great American Ball Park. De La Cruz went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored while hitting for the cycle. De La Cruz is the first Reds player since Eric Davis back in 1989 to pull off such a feat.

De La Cruz's performance over the past week was a big reason for the Cincinnati Reds winning streak that catapulted them into first place in the NL Central. Sadly, the Atlanta Braves put the brakes on the Reds winning ways at 12 games.

This award came as no surprise, and likely won't be his last time that De La Cruz accepts an award for his outstanding level of play. winning the award.
