Reds' Brandon Drury was an All-Star snub in favor Willson Contreras' baby brother

Don't fool yourself, William Contreras did not make the 2022 National League All-Star roster because he deserved it. It's because Major League Baseball wants to milk the pathetic narrative of two brothers appearing and starting on the same All-Star roster. Period!

Contreras is the younger brother of Chicago Cubs' catcher Willson Contreras. The older Contreras is hitting .270/.387/.490 and should be in the conversation for NL MVP. I have no issue at all with Willson Contreras getting the nod to appear in his third All-Star Game.

I have a big problem, however, with his little brother William making the team as a reserve. And the fact that the Atlanta Braves' catcher made over Cincinnati Reds slugger Brandon Drury is a crime.

Reds third baseman Brandon Drury was the biggest All-Star snub.

Brandon Drury was the biggest All-Star snub, and frankly, it's not even close. I won't argue Drury's candidacy over such players as Nolan Arenado, Pete Alonso, or Jeff McNeil. But I've got a huge problem with Drury getting snubbed so William Contreras can join his big brother on the National League All-Star roster.

The Atlanta Braves catcher/ designated hitter has only appeared 42 games this season. Drury, who wasn't even supposed to be part of the Cincinnati Reds roster, has played in 75 games this season and has played all over the diamond.

William Contreras made the team as a designated hitter. Contreras has 12 starts as the Braves DH while Drury has started 11 games as Cincinnati's designated hitter. Oh, and guess what, because Bryce Harper is injured, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN, William and Willson Contreras will both be starting in the All-Star Game. How cute!

It's not that William Contreras has had a bad season, in fact, he's had a good season. But Drury has a higher batting average, a higher bWAR, more home runs, more RBIs, and far more games played than Willson Contreras' baby brother.

Because Harper is out, we could see Brandon Drury make the team as an alternate. In fact, Tyler Stephenson might make the squad as well. Luis Castillo was the Cincinnati Reds lone representative for this year's All-Star Game.
