Art Warren's lack of success in 2022 may find him off the Reds roster in 2023

Art Warren had a terrific year in 2021 and looked to be a key piece of the Cincinnati Reds bullpen in 2022. However, a disastrous season may find the right-hander looking for a new team in 2023.

Prior to the start of the 2022 season, it looked as though Warren would be in the mix to be Cincinnati's closer. While Reds' manager David Bell prefers to use the closer-by-committee strategy, Warren had displayed enough during the 2021 season to at least warrant an opportunity.

Warren, who has been on the mound to finish out a game 15 times this season, does have three saves on the year. But the Ohio native also has three blown saves and really seen meaningful time on the mound since June.

To be fair, Art Warren has dealt with injuries throughout the 2022 season, and those could be impacting his performance more than the fanbase knows. But when your number is called, you have to be able to compete.

Warren has appeared in eight games since August 20th and owns a 4.91 ERA during his 7.1 innings of work. He allowed seven runs to cross the plate, four of them earned, and while he's struck out 10 batters, the right-hander has also allowed seven free passes.

Warren looked unstoppable during the second-half of the 2021 season after returning from the injured list. An oblique injury put Warren on the shelf for quite some time last year, but he returned in September and didn't allow a single run while striking out 13 batters in 6.2 innings.

The Cincinnati Reds will be undergoing some changes this offseason, and if Art Warren sn't careful, he may not be part of the offseason roster. The 29-year-old does have a minor league option remaining, so it's difficult to see Cincinnati cutting ties with Warren after being plagued by injuries this season. However, the final few weeks could decide Warren's future with the club.
