Team Puerto Rico went from jubilation to heartbreak, and they actually won the game. It was what happened after the team's 5-2 victory over the Dominican Republic that was absolutely tragic.
After getting the final out of Puerto Rico's upset win over the Dominican Republic, the New York Mets reliever was greeted by his teammates and the group began to celebrate.
But the joy was short-lived, as Diaz was moving toward third base, it appeared as though his knee gave out and the star reliever hit the turf. Immediately, his teammates motioned toward the dugout for help.

Of course, joining his brother on Team Puerto Rico is Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis Diaz, The brothers are known to be very close, so much so that the Mets were rumored to be looking to trade for Alexis during the offseason in an effort to get the 1-2 punch of the Diaz brothers into the New York bullpen.
Edwin Diaz was helped off the field by his teammates and put little-to-no weight on his right leg. Diaz was eventually placed in a wheelchair and rolled into the clubhouse. According to CBS Sports, Diaz will undergo testing today on his right knee.
The heartbreak was written all over the face of, not just Edwin Diaz, but his younger brother as well. Team Puerto Rico's manager was seen walking off the field with the younger Diaz attempting to console him as tears streamed his face.
Edwin Diaz had just signed a massive five-year/$102-million deal with the New York Mets during the offseason. This would be a major blow to the Mets if Diaz was unable to go.
As for the Cincinnati Reds, they're relying on Alexis Diaz to be the team's closer in 2023. As Puerto Rico advances in the World Baseball Classic, Diaz may become the team's closer. Diaz has pitched two innings in the tournament and has three strikeouts.
