The Cincinnati Reds are riding a five-game winning streak and David Bell's group has caught the eye of those in the national media.
Fox Sports recently released their favorites, contenders, and dark horses for the 2023 MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year Awards.
Believe it or not, one-third of the way through the 2023, four players from this year's Reds team were mentioned as possible contenders for MLB's major awards.
Spencer Steer, Matt McLain, and other Reds players are in contention for MLB awards in 2023.
Obviously, being in the National League eliminates any awards that would be doled out to players from the American League. Fox Sports views Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge as the front runners for AL MVP, while both Hunter Brown and Josh Jung are considered top contenders for the AL Rookie of the Year Award.
Former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Sonny Gray is the outlet's top choice to be named the AL Cy Young Award-winner while his former teammate Luis Castillo is seen as a dark horse contender for the honor.
Obviously the award that most fans throughout Reds Country view as attainable for their hometown team is that of NL Rookie of the Year. After watching Jonathan India take home that very trophy back in 2021, it's possible that the Reds could win the award in two of the past three years.
Matt McLain, who's barely been in the majors for two weeks, is considered a contender for the NL Rookie of the Year. Spencer Steer, who's been hitting the cover off the ball, is mentioned as a dark horse candidate for the award. In addition, despite the fact he's yet to make his MLB debut, Elly De La Cruz is seen as a dark horse contender as well.
The other Reds player who's receiving some outside-the-box consideration is Hunter Greene. Fox Sports views the flamethrower as a dark horse candidate to take home the Cy Young Award this season. Greene is lumped in with a group that includes Clayton Kershaw, Justin Steele, and Marcus Stroman.
There's still plenty of games to be played, but any one of these four Cincinnati Reds players could find themselves in the conversation for some of Major League Baseball's most prestiguous honors as the season enters the month of June.
