Red vs. Angels prediction and odds for Tuesday, August 22 (Ashcraft's Stellar Summer)

The Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels were scheduled to begin this series yesterday in Anaheim, but Tropical Storm HIlary had other ideas. Last night’s game was postponed and today the 61-64 Angels will send Lucas Giolito, who was slated to start yesterday, to the mound against Graham Ashcraft. 

Ashcraft will be making his 23rd start of the year for the 64-61 Reds and comes in at 6-8 with a 4.89 ERA. Giolito is 7-9 in 25 starts with a 4.44 ERA. 

Let’s hope the weather gets better out west, so we can get the first game of the series in before a doubleheader tomorrow. Here are the odds for tonight.

Lately, the offense has dried up for these two teams. Now, they’re hoping the weather will do the same. Cincinnati has scored just 37 runs over the past two weeks which is 29th in baseball. During that same stretch the Angels are 25th with 41 runs scored and an abysmal .607 team OPS. 

During the past week, Shohei Ohtani has still swung a great bat, but the rest of the Angels haven’t given him any help. Mickey Moniak has gone ice cold and is hitting .077 this past week and .138 in the month of August. Ohtani has no support and that makes me lean towards the under in this one. 

Lucas Giolito hasn’t been great in his time in LA, but his struggles were mostly confined to his first outing as an Angel when he allowed nine runs over 3.2 innings of work. On the other side, Ashcraft has been great this month with a 2.86 ERA after posting  a 1.84 ERA in July. He’s turned into a reliable guy over the summer months, so I’ll back him and take the under.
